Teach Plus Policy Fellowship

As a BIPOC artist and educator, my practice focuses on race, education, and equity. As a member of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) cohort for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, I have been focusing on how to broaden my knowledge and expand my reach in how I contribute to equitable living for our brown and black children.

How can I have a larger impact? I have recently been accepted as a TEACH PLUS Policy Fellow for the State of Texas where a cohort and I will examine current bills and then propose recommendations to policy makers through published research. Our goal is to address inequities in the educational system and to make a change that will impact the entire state.

With over 400 applicants, only 55 were selected for the upcoming year fellowship (for what? Interview? Accepted?) I am ecstatic for this opportunity, as it intuitive to with my ideology and aligns with my grant-funded projects that I conduct through the City of Dallas in the sunny South Dallas neighborhoods.
